A Sense of Place - Curious Threads
This exhibition delayed from 2021 with the Covid pandemic featured work from the most recent three challenges, A Sense of Place, Recycle, and Verbage together with a collection of textile sample books and sketchbooks. The main gallery featured the remaining challenge work, A Sense of Place, work completed by each artist during lockdown and Verbiage following a group visit to Sussex Prairie Gardens in Sussex which was the source inspiration. Exhibited within the small gallery was the group installation ‘Recycle’ comprised of hanging textile ‘strings’ designed with the natural light from the window in mind creating impact with both coloured and transparent sections allowing visitors to mingle within. |

Moving On - Curious Threads This was Curious Threads' second major exhibition. Moving on showed new work that evolved from group challenges. It built on the success of the New Beginnings exhibition and demonstrated how each individual member had grown and developed their work. New challenges pushed the boundaries for some, moving into 3D form textiles, interpretations in a Cubist style of work and developing work from specific in-house workshops that have allowed members to extend their abilities. Members have been inspired by the various themes and used a mixture of multi-media, paper, contemporary quilting or stitched and embroidered pieces. |

24th - 28th October 2017 Colonnade House, Worthing
Curious Threads - New Beginnings was the first Curious Threads exhibition featuring members' textile work from three separate group challenges. - a visit to Hannah Peschar Sculpture Gardens - the artists interpretation of ‘Decay’ - a development of work from a gelli plate mono printing workshop. A cohesive presentation allowed the individual style of each artist to sing through. The exhibition was a rich demonstration of variety, and helped to cement together a new group of people who all look to produce quality textile work in an exciting manner. Mags Ramsay in reviewing the exhibition for the Quilters Guild Contemporary Quilt magazine recorded how the work demonstrated a cohesive theme allowing each artist to shine, it was imaginatively displayed and had impressed the steady flow of interested visitors. |

1st - 3rd September 2017 Handmade and Homegrown Festival at Hever Castle
Curious Threads at Hever Quilt Festival Curious Threads were invited to exhibit a Gallery of work at the Hever Castle Quilt Exhibition in 2017. The group challenge inspired from a visit to Hannah Peschar Gardens was the key focus, where each artist produced their interpretation to a wooden sculpture “The Tenderness of the Earth" by Walter Bailey. Incorporating hand-dyed green fabric into a similar size format gave the overall textile display a sense of unity. While allowing each artist to interpret the sculpture in their own way. |
